Bengals OC Gruden Hired by Redskins

The Washington Redskins have hired Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden as their new head coach, in what league sources say is a five-year deal. An official announcement will take place at 4 pm ET today.

Cincinnati could wind up losing both coordinators as Mike Zimmer will continue to interview with teams this week (scheduled with Titans today), and has currently emerged as the favorite in Minnesota after meeting with the Vikings yesterday.

Hue Jackson, whose current title is special assistant to head coach Marvin Lewis and running backs coach, is expected to replace Gruden as offensive coordinator; a deal sources say is “likely” to be done today if the paperwork is complete.

Jackson has plenty of experience as an offensive coordinator, a title he held in Oakland, Atlanta and Washington. As offensive coordinator in Oakland in 2010, the Raiders were 2nd in the NFL in rushing with 155.9 yards per game. As head coach in Oakland in 2011, they were 7th in rushing with 131.9 yards per game.
