Bengals-Cardinals will not be about history with Carson Palmer

It’s hard to forget the drama that went down between the Bengals and Carson Palmer in his last year in Cincinnati. The Bengals QB wanted out… and he got it. Cincinnati brought in Andy Dalton as his replacement and according to Marvin Lewis, both sides have moved on. “[Carson Palmer] has gone on. We’ve gone on and everybody is happy,” the head coach told the media in his press conference this afternoon.

Lewis’ players seem to echo his sentiments. As Adam Jones was speaking to the media, Leon Hall walked by and overheard Palmer being mentioned and yelled out “Carson who?” Jones went on to say there’s not lingering bitterness between the Bengals and Palmer, “No, no. That’s the past. A lot of guys in here weren’t even here when Carson was. It is what it is. We’re happy around here and I wish him all the best.”

While there will surely be some Bengals fans feeling a little more bitter towards their former quarterback, everyone at Paul Brown Stadium was more than complimentary. “They have a great quarterback. You know I played with Carson,” said safety Reggie Nelson. “He’s been looking pretty great and doing a good job of leading his guys… I know Carson and in my book he’s a great guy and an excellent player.”

Lewis actually spent some time praising Palmer and remembering the days he watched him throw out at USC and how impressed he was. Lewis joked that any time they bring in a quarterback to Cincinnati they have a hard time because it’s tough to compare anyone to Palmer. “You still see it every time he drops back. It’s just so impressive… I’ve never seen anybody like him,” said Lewis. “He played his tail off last year. It was impressive to watch. He’s still Carson.”

It should also be noted that the Bengals will face another former teammate when they play the Cardinals on Sunday. Frostee Rucker now plays for Arizona.
