Louisville big man Anas Mahmoud out for season

Louisville Cardinals 7-foot center Anas Mahmoud will miss the rest of the season, due to a sprained ankle. Mahmoud stepped on the foot of another player during Monday’s practice. There was no break as X-rays were negative. However it will take three-to-six weeks for the ankle to heal. By that time, the Cardinals will be finished with the final six games of their regular season. The Cards self imposed a 2016 postseason ban due to the NCAA’s ongoing investigation into an alleged recruiting scandal.
Mahmoud was in his second season with the Cardinals. The sophomore averaged 3.2 points, and three rebounds a game this season, with 29 blocked shots. He played about 14 minutes a game against Louisville’s ACC opponents. His best game scoring wise, was at Georgia Tech when he scored 15 points.
The Cardinals are ranked 18th in the latest AP poll. They will try to break a two game losing streak on Wednesday night when they host Syracuse.
