American Pharoah Honored at Churchill Downs

Triple Crown winner American Pharoah was back at Churchill Downs Saturday, but the difference between this appearance and his many others at the race track is that this time Pharoah walked instead of trotting or galloping.
Pharoah was on hand along with owner Ahmed Zayat, trainer Bob Baffert and jockey Victor Espinoza for the presentation of the Triple Crown and Kentucky Derby Winner’s Trophies.
Pharoah was walked around the track wearing a Triple Crown winner blanket before being walked to the paddock to be seen by his fans. He later joined Zayat, Baffert and Espinoza in the G.H. Mumm Winner’s Circle for the trophy presentation.
Pharoah will forever be remembered for becoming the 12th Triple Crown winner in horse racing and the first since Affirmed in 1978. After the presentation Zayat talked about the horse’s rise to fame and what makes Pharoah so special.
Pharoah also got some work in Saturday morning, galloping 1 1/4 miles on Churchill’s main track as he prepares for the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park on August second.
