A.J. Green: "I'm the same old A.J.... just with a little bit more money"

09/11/2015 05:30 PM

A.J. Green and the Bengals agreed to a 4-year, $60 million contract extension Friday before the team loaded the buses for the airport to head to Oakland. It came down to the final hours to finish the deal and A.J. said if he’s honest, he wasn’t sure it would get done.

The deal locks down Green in Cincinnati through 2019, which his quarterback, Andy Dalton, is thrilled about, “A.J. makes all of us better. As a quarterback, you can put up a contested ball for him that you might not put up for everybody. We’re focused right now on 2015, but this is great to know for the long run.” His teammates and the organization are happy to have Green stay in Cincinnati, and the feeling is mutual… the 4-time Pro Bowl wide receiver wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

Green’s deal was expected to be similar to the extensions signed by Julio Jones, Demaryius Thomas and Dez Bryant this offseason. Green’s deal came last but turned out to be the biggest payday. His 4-year, $60 million contract averages out to more per year than Jones, Thomas or Bryant. Green said he just wanted the deal to be fair and he feels it is, that the Bengals did right by him. He’s now second only to Calvin Johnson as the highest paid wide receivers in the league… but if you think the money will change him, think again.
