H.S. FOOTBALL | Rondale Moore Commits to Purdue

Trinity wide receiver Rondale Moore committed to Purdue on Saturday during the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. “The Brohm’s have always been a part of my recruitment, you know, early on, since my freshman and sophomore year,” said Moore. “So, I felt like that’s the place for me.” Moore is a four-star recruit, according to 247 Sports. He was previously committed to Texas, but decommitted from the school in December.  Read more 

H.S. BASKETBALL | King of the Bluegrass Holiday Classic Begins Tuesday

The annual King of the Bluegrass Holiday Classic begins Tuesday at Fairdale High School. This year’s high school boys basketball tournament features 16 teams, some of which are from Kentucky, while others are from out of state. The first round of games will take place Tuesday and Wednesday at the school. Will Wolford has resigned as head coach of the St. X football team. Wolford spent the last five years as head coach of the Tigers. During that time, he had an overall record of 44-22 with the team. Tuesday night the Anderson County boy’s basketball team defeated Rockcastle County 83-56. The game was like any other- there were players, coaches, referees, fans and students, and of course, cheerleaders. One Bearcat cheerleader may stick out. Trinity High School wide receiver Rondale Moore was named the Gatorade Kentucky Football Player of the Year on Monday. The University of Texas commit helped lead his Shamrocks (15-0) to the KHSAA 6A state championship this season. Moore had 16 touchdown receptions this season along with seven rushing touchdowns. The Trinity Shamrocks completed their second-straight perfect season, going 15-0 en-route to the 2017 6-A State Title over rival St. Xavier at UK’s Kroger Field on Sunday. The final score was 38-21 in front of nearly 10,000 fans. The Rocks now have 25 State Titles. Trinity leads the all-time series with St. X 45-37-2 and has won 14 of the last 15 match-ups. Covington Catholic football did something on Saturday night it had done in its previous seven games. For the eighth straight game, the Colonels scored at least 40 points en route to a 49-13 win over Madison Southern (11-4) in the Russell Athletic / KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl 5A State Championship Game. The Franklin-Simpson football team accomplished something the program has not been able to do since 1980, winning a state championship. The Wildcats (12-3) got out to an early lead and never looked back en route to a 35-21 win over Johnson Central (12-3) on Saturday in the Russell Athletic / KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl 4A Championship Game. The Danville Admirals left no doubt that it was the best team in the state this football season at the 2A level. The Admirals (15-0) completed their quest for perfection with a 35-21 victory over Mayfield (13-2) in the Russell Athletic / KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl 2A Championship Game on Saturday afternoon.
