The EKU Colonels open up their regular season on Saturday when they face in-state rival WKU. It will be the first match-up between the two programs since the 2008 season. In the last meeting of “The Battle of the Bluegrass,” WKU beat EKU 37-13. EKU head coach Mark Elder has named Tim Boyle as the Colonels’ starting quarterback. “The offense is extremely exciting,” said Boyle. “I’m excited to be a part of it.” Elder cited Boyle’s consistency in camp as a reason he named Boyle as the starting quarterback. Boyle transferred to EKU prior to the 2016 season. Before that, he was a UConn quarterback, seeing action in 25 games during previous three seasons (2013-2015). The EKU football team began fall practice earlier this week for its upcoming 2017 season. There is plenty of excitement surrounding the Colonels this year thanks to their Class of 2017 recruiting class, which was, according to HERO Sports, ranked 14th nationally at the FCS level. Despite being picked to finish fifth in the OVC preseason poll at media days, the EKU football team is still very hopeful that they’ll have a good season this year. Last year, the Colonels finished 3-8 and just 1-6 in the conference. Head Coach Mark Elder says he returns plenty of players on defense. EKU forward Jackson Davis is looking forward to the 2017-2018 season. The EKU men’s basketball team is looking forward to the 2017-2018 season. In fact, head coach Dan McHale may even be the most excited person in the program about the upcoming year. The EKU football team held its annual Maroon & White Spring Game this past Saturday. The defense beat the offense 46-13 in the intrasquad match-up. EKU TRACK & FIELD | Claitt Making EKU History

EKU sophomore track and field athlete Tequan Claitt broke a 35-year-old school record on Saturday at WKU’s Hilltopper Relays. Claitt, a high jumper, jumped 7’-5.75” to take over as the owner of the best high jump in school history.
