The Franklin-Simpson football team accomplished something the program has not been able to do since 1980, winning a state championship. The Wildcats (12-3) got out to an early lead and never looked back en route to a 35-21 win over Johnson Central (12-3) on Saturday in the Russell Athletic / KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl 4A Championship Game. The Danville Admirals left no doubt that it was the best team in the state this football season at the 2A level. The Admirals (15-0) completed their quest for perfection with a 35-21 victory over Mayfield (13-2) in the Russell Athletic / KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl 2A Championship Game on Saturday afternoon. Boyle County returned as 3A champions for the first time since 2010. Boyle County (14-1) defeated Corbin (13-2) in the KHSAA 3A state championship 41-20 at Kroger Field on Friday night. This gives the Rebels their 8th state and Head Coach Chuck Smith his 6th. Quarterback Reed Lanter was 16-24 for 223 yards and 5 TDs, throwing 3 TDs to his friend since the third grade, Reese Smith, who also had a 40-yard interception return in the first quarter. The Beechwood High School football team found itself in a familiar position Friday afternoon, hoisting up the KHSAA 1A State Championship Game trophy. The Tigers (12-2) dominated Raceland (10-5) inside Kroger Field en route to a 41-0 win. It’s the second consecutive KHSAA 1A State Championship for the Tigers. Pendleton County basketball player Dontaie Allen began his 2017-2018 regular season with a solid outing on Tuesday night with a 36-point performance. One For The Ages: Trinity vs. Male, 2002 4A State Championship Game

The 2002 KHSAA 4A Football State Championship game is the highest scoring state title game in Kentucky history. Male and Trinity combined for 115 points and more than 1,300 yards of total offense. Trinity came out on top, beating Male 59-56 in front of more than 20,000 fans at Fairgrounds Cardinal Stadium. Last week, Assumption High School revealed that varsity field hockey head coach Debbie Judd was stepping down as head coach. Judd, who coached the Rockets’ field hockey program for roughly 30 years, led her team to a lot of success. During her time as Assumption head coach, she led the Rockets to over 550 wins, along with 10 state championships. The Assumption High School volleyball team is celebrating the school’s 20th state title this week, after sweeping opponent Mercy. As the 2017 KHSAA volleyball champions, the Rockets won more than half of all volleyball state championships in the Bluegrass. Trinity senior wide receiver Rondale Moore received a U.S. Army All-American Bowl invitation Wednesday at Trinity High School. Moore will be Trinity’s fourth All-American, following Brian Brohm, Jason Hatcher and James Quick. Moore, a Texas-commit, is a four-star and considered the top 2018 prospect in the state of Kentucky. Moore and the Shamrocks are undefeated this season, hosting Seneca on Friday at 7:30 p.m. eastern in the first round of the playoffs.
