WKU FOOTBALL | Domenic Reno To Be Recognized in January

Next month, WKU assistant strength and conditioning coach Domenic Reno will be recognized for winning a national award. In November, Reno was named the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s (NSCA) Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year. During his time at WKU, Reno has been mainly focused on helping the football and track and field programs. He will be recognized in Nashville on January 4, 2017 at the NSCA’s Coaches Conference.  Read more

Mike Sanford was hired as Western Kentucky football’s next head football coach on Wednesday afternoon. He becomes the 20th football head coach in school history. This is not the the first time Sanford will coach at Western. He was the quarterbacks coach for the Hilltoppers during the 2010 season. Since then, he has served on the football staff at Stanford, Boise St. and Notre Dame in various capacities. Western Kentucky has named Mike Sanford as the football team’s next head coach, Director of Athletics Todd Stewart announced Wednesday. Sanford will be the 20th head football coach in Western Kentucky history. Sanford, 34, spent the last two seasons as Notre Dame’s offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach. WKU FOOTBALL | Holt Discusses New Role as Interim Head Coach

WKU defensive coordinator Nick Holt spoke with the media on Tuesday about his new role as interim head coach. Of course, former head coach Jeff Brohm accepted the head coaching job at Purdue on Monday. Brohm led the Hilltoppers to the Conference USA championship this year. WKU FOOTBALL | Jeff Brohm Accepts Purdue Job

WKU Head Coach Jeff Brohm has accepted the Purdue University Head Coaching job. It is a six-year deal with Purdue with an estimated $20 million contract. Brohm coached the Hilltoppers to back-to-back conference championships, three-straight bowl games and a 30-10 overall record in his three seasons on the Hill. According to other sources, Brohm also interviewed for the Baylor and Cincinnati jobs over the weekend. The Western Kentucky football team won the Conference USA Championship Game for the second straight year on Saturday. WKU (10-3) and Louisiana Tech (8-5) each scored plenty of points, but in the end, it was the Toppers that won 58-44. Both teams combined for 1,163 yards of offense in what was not only the highest scoring championship game in C-USA history, but also in overall FBS conference championship game history. Western Kentucky Football is heading to Marshall on Saturday and if their short history repeats itself, it will be another very high scoring showdown. Last year, WKU beat Marshall 49-28, and beat the Herd 66-65 the year before. There are also big Conference USA implications to this game. WKU WOMEN'S BASKETBALL | Final Four Teams Return to Diddle Arena

Two Western Kentucky women’s basketball teams that went to the Final Four in the 1980s returned to Diddle Arena on Saturday. The 1984-1985 Lady Toppers, along with the 1985-1986 team were recognized during Saturday’s game against #23 Indiana. “It brought back a lot of memories,” said former WKU player Lillie Mason. Former WKU football and basketball player George Fant is making the most of his NFL rookie season. The current Seattle Seahawks offensive lineman has started the last three games for the team after Bradley Sowell injured his knee against the Arizona Cardinals.
