With only a national championship game to play this football season, most college coaches are moving on to the 2017 season, and that includes Western Kentucky. New head coach Mike Sanford continues to add to his coaching staff, most recently naming Junior Adams as his offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach. The Lady Hilltopper’s Basketball team welcomed in 2017 with a dominating performance over Florida International University, taking down the Golden Panthers 90-38. In the first quarter at Diddle Arena, the Tops held FIU to just four points to their 26. They proceeded to outscore them 15-11 in the second quarter, 24-12 in the third quarter and 25-11 in the fourth. The WKU Hilltoppers finish the season 11-3 after a dominating 51-31 performance over Memphis in the Boca Raton Bowl. Memphis was first on the scoreboard, Riley Ferguson’s 45-yard pass to Tony Pollard gave the Tigers a 6-0 lead. After Jake Elliot’s point-after-attempt, they had an early 7-0 lead. WKU FOOTBALL | Domenic Reno To Be Recognized in January

Next month, WKU assistant strength and conditioning coach Domenic Reno will be recognized for winning a national award. In November, Reno was named the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s (NSCA) Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year. During his time at WKU, Reno has been mainly focused on helping the football and track and field programs. He will be recognized in Nashville on January 4, 2017 at the NSCA’s Coaches Conference.  Read more

Mike Sanford was hired as Western Kentucky football’s next head football coach on Wednesday afternoon. He becomes the 20th football head coach in school history. This is not the the first time Sanford will coach at Western. He was the quarterbacks coach for the Hilltoppers during the 2010 season. Since then, he has served on the football staff at Stanford, Boise St. and Notre Dame in various capacities. Western Kentucky has named Mike Sanford as the football team’s next head coach, Director of Athletics Todd Stewart announced Wednesday. Sanford will be the 20th head football coach in Western Kentucky history. Sanford, 34, spent the last two seasons as Notre Dame’s offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach. WKU FOOTBALL | Holt Discusses New Role as Interim Head Coach

WKU defensive coordinator Nick Holt spoke with the media on Tuesday about his new role as interim head coach. Of course, former head coach Jeff Brohm accepted the head coaching job at Purdue on Monday. Brohm led the Hilltoppers to the Conference USA championship this year. WKU FOOTBALL | Jeff Brohm Accepts Purdue Job

WKU Head Coach Jeff Brohm has accepted the Purdue University Head Coaching job. It is a six-year deal with Purdue with an estimated $20 million contract. Brohm coached the Hilltoppers to back-to-back conference championships, three-straight bowl games and a 30-10 overall record in his three seasons on the Hill. According to other sources, Brohm also interviewed for the Baylor and Cincinnati jobs over the weekend.
