The Kentucky Country Day Bearcats open up their regular season on Friday, August 18 at Atherton. The Bearcats are coming off a successful 2016 campaign, making it to the third round of the KHSAA Class A Playoffs. They finished the season 10-3 overall. The Elizabethtown Panthers are getting excited to begin the 2017 regular season, despite having a tough opening stretch of games. The 3A Panthers begin the season on Friday, August 18 against Franklin-Simpson. Then, two weeks later, on September 1, E-Town takes on 6A North Hardin. The Central Hardin Bruins are hoping for more success this year, especially in the postseason. “I hope they’re (players) motivated to make our season go further into the playoffs this year,” said head coach Tim Mattingly. The Woodford County High School football team is looking forward to the 2017 regular season. Last year, the Yellowjackets finished 3-8 overall. This year though, the team has already noticed a difference. “They (the players) don’t really give in,” said offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Ashton Bailey. “They make sure if they lose the first rep, they’re going to win the second rep.” Woodford County opens up the season on Saturday, August 19 against Wayne County.  Read more

The Lafayette Generals enter the 2017 regular season, coming off back-to-back appearances in the KHSAA 6A State Championship Game. In 2016, Lafayette fell to Trinity 56-21 in the title game. In 2015, the Generals came up short to Male, falling 41-14 in the championship game. This year, the Generals are hoping to get back to the title game and win. In their first season under Coach Scott Carmony, the DuPont Manual Crimsons finished with a 9-3 record, going 6-3 in the region, but just 2-3 in district play. They eventually fell to St. X in the second round of the playoffs. Carmony admits that this season, his team doesn’t have a large veteran presence, which can make things complicated for both depth and leadership, but says the young guys leave them “energized”.
