Former Louisville Cardinal Russ Smith had a successful season with the NBA D-League’s Delaware 87ers, averaging over 17 points per game with the ball club. But, just because the season is over doesn’t mean that there is any “down time” for Smith. Smith is staying busy organizing many events for the Russ Smith Foundation in Louisville. Multiple reports show that University of Louisville junior forward Jaylen Johnson appeared in court and pleaded guilty Monday in Woodford County to a marijuana possession charge. According to reports, the judge issued a fine of $260.50 to be paid by April 24. According to court records, Johnson was pulled over on March 22, just three days after the Cardinals loss to Michigan in the NCAA tournament, because his license plate was not visible. Just days after the spring football game at Louisville, junior cornerback Alphonso Carter announced via Twitter that he is transferring from Louisville. According to his UofL Athletics bio, Carter is a 6’3” junior from Fort Washington, Maryland. In the 2015 season he appeared in six games for the Cardinals at wide receiver and as a punt returner. UofL baseball pitcher Brendan McKay was recognized on Monday as the ACC Pitcher of the Week. It’s the third time this season that the junior has been given the honor. McKay got the start against Georgia Tech on Thursday night and was nearly flawless on the mound. He finished the game with eight strikeouts and held the Yellow Jackets on only one hit in eight innings of action, as the Cards cruised to a 3-0 win. Four future Louisville men’s basketball players were on the same team during Saturday night’s Kentucky Derby Festival Basketball Classic. The four of them each contributed quite a bit to the “Thunder Team,” despite the “Thunder Team” falling to the “Lightning Team” 122-109. Guard Darius Perry led the future Cards with 22 points in the contest. The “Red Team” won Saturday’s Spring Game in convincing fashion, beating the “White Team” 52-7. The “Red Team” scored the last 45 points of the game. The total offense between the two teams was a big difference in the match-up. The “Red Team” finished with 525 yards of total offense, while the “White Team” finished with only 330.
