COUNTY CONNECTION | Meade County's "Ryder Cup"

April’s “County Connection” series took Spectrum News to Meade County, where there is an annual competition between two of the local golf courses in Brandenburg. River Trace Golf at Meade Activity Center and Doe Valley Golf Club compete against each other every year in an inter-club “Ryder Cup” match. The winning course then gets the “Ryder Cup” for that year. Doe Valley is the defending champion. USL SOCCER | LouCity, FCC Draw in First Rivalry Match-Up This Season

Rivalry games always seem to be intense, close games. That was the case on Saturday night at Nippert Stadium, as Louisville City FC and FC Cincinnati fought to a 1-1 draw in front of 20,437 fans. With the result, LouCity (3-0-2) still has not lost a game this season. On the flip side, FCC (2-2-2) wraps up a busy week that featured three games for the Orange and Blue. PGA TOUR | Justin Thomas Back Home in Kentucky

PGA Tour golfer and Louisville native Justin Thomas is back in the Bluegrass this weekend. Thomas is hosting the American Junior Golf Association’s “Justin Thomas Junior Championship” at Goshen’s Harmony Landing Country Club. The tournament runs through Sunday. This season, Thomas has found a lot of success on the Tour, winning three tournaments. Two of those tournaments were back-to-back January wins in Hawaii. But, despite being able to travel around the globe, Thomas is happy to be back home.  Read more 

LOUISVILLE CITY FC | Spencer Returning Home This Weekend

Louisville City FC defender Luke Spencer is very excited to be playing in Cincinnati Saturday night against FC Cincinnati. That is because Spencer calls Cincinnati is hometown. In fact, he played college soccer in the city, at Xavier. Then, last year, he was a member of FC Cincinnati. As a player, Jake Thelen was a consensus All-American, and helped Bellarmine men’s basketball reach a Final Four in 2015. He hopes to accomplish even more as the newest member of the program’s coaching staff. Thelen is regarded as one of the all-time greats to wear a Bellarmine jersey, and since his graduation, he has added on a couple years of coaching experience to his resume. FC CINCINNATI | New Look at Nippert Stadium

Nippert Stadium will be a very busy stadium this weekend. On Friday, it hosts the University of Cincinnati football spring game. Then, on Saturday, it hosts the home opener for FC Cincinnati, when the Orange and Blue hosts Saint Louis FC at 7 p.m. ET. Fans at both events will likely notice some changes to the stadium, as Nippert recently underwent at $2 million renovation project. LOUISVILLE CITY FC | LouCity Plans To Build Soccer-Specific Stadium in Louisville

Louisville City FC announced on Wednesday that it plans to build a soccer-specific stadium in the Butchertown Neighborhood of Louisville. The site of the proposed facility is within walking distance to the Big Four Bridge. It is also located blocks from Main Street. The club says the 10,000-seat stadium would open in 2020. The Louisville Sports Commission is holding its “Golden Ticket” raffle. This is the sixth year that the Commission has held the event. The “Golden Ticket” raffle is essentially a chance for you to attend some of the biggest sporting events across the Bluegrass.
