Players from two Kentucky universities are named on the 2017 Manning Award preseason watch list. Western Kentucky quarterback Mike White and University of Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson are among the award’s initial 30 candidates. It is the fourth preseason watch list honor for Jackson and the sixth for White. Jackson is the reigning ACC Player of the Year. BOAT RACING | Inaugural Louisville Regatta GP This Weekend

The Inaugural Louisville Regatta Grand Prix takes place this weekend on the Ohio River near Louisville’s Waterfront Park. This weekend’s event will be the third race of the IOGP F1 ChampBoat Championship series this season. The event will allow fans to see the International Outboard Grand Prix (IOGP) Powerboats race each other. The power boats have a top speed of roughly 150 miles per hour. The Kentucky high school football regular season begins this week, and one of the teams in action will be the St. X Tigers. Last year, the Tigers went 10-4 overall, losing all four of their games to eventual state champions, whether Kentucky or Ohio state champs. In fact, their postseason run ended in the state semifinal round of the KHSAA 6A playoffs to the Trinity Shamrocks, who ultimately won the 6A title. The Louisville football program held its annual Kickoff Luncheon on Tuesday afternoon inside the Louisville Marriott Grand Ballroom. It was a chance for hundreds of UofL fans to hear from head coach Bobby Petrino and a handful of players. The University of Louisville volleyball team has spent the last several seasons hosting matches in the KFC Yum! Center, but are moving to Cardinal Arena on the school’s campus starting this season. The move is part of the University’s new lease agreement with the Yum! Center, and it will create a much different atmosphere for the fans and players. The Louisville field hockey team is counting down the days until its regular season opener. The Cards begin the regular season on Aug. 25 at UofL’s Trager Stadium. Model Laboratory School senior Josh Smith is the best in the world among male high school archers. Smith earned the title during the World Outdoor 3D Championships in Seven Springs, Pennsylvania over the weekend. Smith not only finished first in the high school male division; he also finished second among all males at the competition.
