The last few weeks, college football fans have been spoiled, as spring games have taken place across the country. The same can be said here in the Bluegrass. Louisville, UK, WKU and EKU all held their respective spring games within the last 15 days. Today, there was no major spring game in the Commonwealth, which got me thinking about the upcoming season. Desmond Maxwell working hard for a NFL phone call

For Desmond Maxwell, football is more than just a game. Maxwell has been playing football since he was a kid at Pleasure Ridge Park High School in Louisville. The game took him to Georgetown College, before transferring to Western Kentucky University where Maxwell played multiple positions. KENTUCKY DERBY | Fast and Accurate Training in Unique Location

Fast and Accurate has never won on a dirt track. The horse is hoping to change that next week at the 143rd running of the Kentucky Derby. The Mike Maker-trained colt is currently training at Trackside Training Facility, which is owned by Churchill Downs. “It’s more quiet,” said Maker. “We’re able to have more horses over here.” Fast and Accurate will not move to Churchill until three days before the Derby. UofL Athletics Association Board Meeting | Jurich Speaks Out

After criticizing UofL Athletics in a Board of Trustees meeting on April 12 and calling leadership “invisible”, John Schnatter “Papa John”, the CEO of the Louisville based pizza company, has resigned his position from the Athletics Association Board as of April 21 according to a UofL spokesperson. Schnatter was appointed to the Board of Trustees by Governor Matt Bevin as part of his BOT overhaul. Schnatter was one of the BOT members appointed to the ULAA board. H.S. BASEBALL | Lexington Catholic On a Roll

The Lexington Catholic baseball team has been on a roll recently. The Knights have won their last seven games. In fact, the last time the Knights lost was roughly two weeks ago, back on April 13 against Lafayette. Lexington Catholic is coming off a 4-1 win over Dunbar on Tuesday night. Plenty of former Louisville football players are hoping to get drafted in this year’s NFL Draft. Notable UofL players looking to get drafted include linebackers Keith Kelsey and Devonte Fields, wide receivers Jamari Staples and James Quick and tight end Cole Hikutini. UofL BASKETBALL | Five-Star Point Guard Commits to Cards

Five-star Class of 2018 point guard Mykasa Robinson revealed late last week that she has verbally committed to the Louisville Cardinals. Robinson, out of Ashland, Ky., was once committed to Colorado before re-opening her commitment. Robinson is ranked as the 13th best recruit in the Class of 2018 according to espnW . The Western Kentucky football program held its annual spring game over the weekend, and despite some muggy conditions the Hilltoppers put on a show for the fans in attendance. Male High School’s softball team is currently ranked in the “Top 10” in the state of Kentucky. A lot of the team’s success is due to the play of freshman Jaelyn Sanders.
