Beechwood High School football head coach Noel Rash was honored by the Cincinnati Bengals on Tuesday afternoon. Rash was named the winner of the Paul Brown Excellence in Coaching Award. The award has been given out to outstanding football coaches in the region since 2002. This year’s prize to Rash also includes a $5,000 Bengals donation to the Beechwood athletic department. The Scott County Cardinals finished last season 11-3, falling to Lafayette one game shy of the state finals, but long-time coach Jim McKee said they aren’t even thinking about last season anymore. The Central High School football team has a new leader for the 2017 season. Marvin Dantzler was named the Yellow Jackets’ head coach in February after former head coach Ty Scroggins stepped down during the offseason. Dantzler has previous head coaching experience at high schools in Louisiana and Oklahoma. In a sense, he is replacing a Central “legend.” Scroggins was head coach at the school for ten seasons, reaching seven Class 3A KHSAA State Championship games, winning five of them. The KHSAA Board of Control held its first meeting of the 2017-18 academic year Friday and Saturday. During the meeting, the board took a “progressive step” in the area of student-athlete safety by approving a recommendation from staff to mandate the use of face protection in softball for pitchers, first basemen and third basemen. Like every year, expectations are high for the Bowling Green High School football team. The Purples are back-to-back state champions and hoping for a three-peat this season. A key part to whether the team can achieve that goal or not will be the play of senior linebacker Justice Dingle. Dingle is a three-star prospect, according to Scout.
