College football season is rapidly approaching but college basketball never takes a back seat in this state, and Louisville head coach Rick Pitino has provided a summer update on his blog. H.S. FOOTBALL | Beechwood's Rash Recognized by Bengals

Beechwood High School football head coach Noel Rash was honored by the Cincinnati Bengals on Tuesday afternoon. Rash was named the winner of the Paul Brown Excellence in Coaching Award. The award has been given out to outstanding football coaches in the region since 2002. This year’s prize to Rash also includes a $5,000 Bengals donation to the Beechwood athletic department. Last season, Rash led Beechwood to the 2016 KHSAA Class A State Championship, after his team beat Hazard 21-14 in the title... Read more

A group of eight Louisville athletes are set to compete in the 2017 UCI BMX World Championships in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The riders from Derby City BMX are among more than 3,300 riders from across the world to participate in the competition, which will run until Saturday. The group trains at a recently refurbished facility at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville. Despite being picked to finish fifth in the OVC preseason poll at media days, the EKU football team is still very hopeful that they’ll have a good season this year. Last year, the Colonels finished 3-8 and just 1-6 in the conference. Head Coach Mark Elder says he returns plenty of players on defense. As the 2017 OVC Media Day wrapped in Nashville on Monday, this season’s focus for the Murray State Racers was clear — the team’s quarterback replacement and an improved defense. Nippert Stadium was filled with 23,114 fans on Monday night for F.C. Cincinnati’s international friendly versus La Liga club Valencia C.F. Valencia head coach Marcelino compared the atmosphere at Nippert to that of a La Liga match and said he hopes Cincinnati gets into the MLS. Valencia scored their first goal in the 62nd minute. Ohio Valley Conference Football Media Day is taking place Monday in Nashville, Tn. It is a chance for coaches and players from the league’s teams to meet with the media to talk about the upcoming season. In addition for Q&A opportunities with the teams, the OVC revealed its preseason poll, which is compiled by votes from the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.
