Kentucky’s junior U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, is throwing his support to Circuit Judge Dan Ballou in the race for the 3rd judicial district justice for Kentucky’s Supreme Court.

In statement, Paul said he was excited to endorse Ballou, the Chief Circuit Court Judge for Kentucky’s 34th Judicial Circuit, in his 2018 election bid to replace Justice Daniel Venters.

“I am excited to endorse Judge Dan Ballou’s campaign for the Kentucky Supreme Court. Judge Ballou has dedicated his life to defending the Constitution, our freedom and liberty, and our way of life in Kentucky,” Paul said in a statement. “He has served our country honorably as a Marine and his community as an elected judge. In applying the law and administering justice, Judge Ballou is guided by our founding documents. He would be an excellent choice for the Kentucky Supreme Court.”

Ballou, of Williamsburg, is currently the only judge to file for the position of Justice of the Supreme Court, a nonpartisan position. The 3rd judicial district encompasses 27 counties in southeast Kentucky. Justices serve eight year terms.
