UofL Board of Trustees expected to approve new KFC Yum! Center lease agreement

During its meeting on Thursday afternoon, the University of Louisville Board of Trustees is expected to approve a new lease agreement involving the primary tenant of the KFC Yum! Center. The approval is the next step after the university’s athletic association voted in favor of the agreement earlier Thursday morning, followed by approval from the Louisville Arena Authority.

The university and the arena authority have been negotiating amendments to the lease in which U of L would contribute more to the Louisville Arena Authority, with the amended agreement expected to include at least $2.4 million from the university toward the arena per year than it currently does.

Listen to UofL Athletics Director Tom Jurich voice his concerns:

Today’s vote follows an ordinance that was passed by the Louisville Metro Council, which requires the university’s athletic association to restructure its lease and provide more funding to help alleviate the arena’s debt.
