Thieneman faces new challenge to residency in battleground 37th Senate

*UPDATE: The Judge in the case heard arguments in Jefferson Co. Circuit Court on Friday and is expected to issue a ruling on Thursday, November 1st. *

Lawyers for Republican Senate candidate Chris Thieneman will be in court Friday defending his eligibility to run for state Senate in the 37th District in south Louisville.

The motion filed in Jefferson County Circuit Court claims that Thieneman does not live in the district, but instead lives in a condo on the east side of Louisville. The claim is not new to Thieneman who faced a similar motion during the Republican primary – a judge in that case ruled in his favor.

WFPL first reported the lawsuit on Thursday.

The case will be heard in Jefferson Co. Court on Friday, and Jennifer Moore a lawyer for Robert Walker – who filed the claim against Thieneman, said they will ask the judge to rule immediately on the case from the bench due to the impending Election on November 6th.

Thieneman faces off against Sen. Perry Clark, D- Louisville, who has held the seat since 2006. Clark has been out raised by Thieneman by more than $100,000 in this contest so far, prompting the Kentucky Democratic Party to run ads against Thieneman on his behalf.

Thieneman told Pure Politics in a September interview that he welcomes additional challenges to his residency and that he has lived within the district long enough to qualify.

Moore will also present testimony from the President of the Home Owners Association which claims that Thieneman sleeps at the condo in the 33rd Dist. and his family visits him there.
