The Chatter: Dribble-drive politics and other notes
07/22/2010 07:14 AM
First, another reminder that this site will publish the results of the first cn|2 Poll this afternoon.
Now, some crossing between sports and politics this week:
- University of Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari sent out a letter that he would hold a fund-raiser for Gov. Steve Beshear’s re-election campaign, as first reported by Jake Payne at PageoneKentucky. Then the coach later posted on Facebook that he wouldn’t be playing host after all (Pageonekentucky again). The Herald-Leader’s Jack Brammer also has a detailed story on the developments.
- Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul again addressed the subject of farm subsidies on the campaign trail on Wednesday in advance of his appearance with Jack Conway on Thursday at the Kentucky Farm Bureau forum in Louisville, according to the Associated Press’ Roger Alford.
- Paul also is challenging Conway to a slew of debates.
- Jake Payne took a gratuitous shot at the Baltimore Orioles. Jake, with his mean facts, had to note how bad the O’s are when referencing first lady Michelle Obama throwing out the first pitch at a game this week. But Payne was accurate: despite the Orioles’ major league-worst record I still “heart” that team.
