Tax attorney breaks down GOP tax changes; opportunities for more adjustments

05/08/2018 02:30 PM

Legislators in Frankfort passed, and upheld a veto override of a tax reform package this session, but one conservative attorney said there is more lawmakers can do in the space.

Mark Sommer, an attorney specializing in tax law with Frost Brown Todd in Louisville, broke down the GOPs approach to reform in an interview with Pure Politics, and the secretive way they went about it.

The Louisville attorney, said there are still plenty of areas ripe for reform in Kentucky.

“Ample opportunity, we haven’t even lifted the rock,” he said. “This is a solid first step in fairness to the General Assembly, I mean that.”

Sommer is advocating to get “a bunch of smart people in a room” and fully vet what has been done and where Kentucky lawmakers go from here, when it comes to taxing.
