State Rep. Jim Wayne to Harry Reid: Be a leader on gun control

State Rep. Jim Wayne, D-Louisville, said he emailed U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid this week to ask him to “be a leader” on gun issues and not drop an assault weapons ban from the gun bill the Senate will consider.
Reid announced this week a bill with an assault weapon ban wouldn’t get anywhere near the 60 votes needed to break a filibuster. Instead, he will push a bill that includes universal background checks, as Politico reported on Thursday.
Wayne, a proponent of stronger gun laws in Kentucky , said that wasn’t good enough.
“This is important. This is a scandal in our nation that we’re allowing this to happen. There’s no reason why assault weapons need to be in the hands of citizens,” Wayne told Pure Politics.
