U.S. House Speaker John Boehner is lending a hand to Thomas Massie, the tea party favorite and 4th Congressional District GOP nominee, at a private fundraiser Friday at the Covington home of businessman John Topits.
The event is invitation only and not open to the public or media, said Massie campaign spokesman Ken Howard.
Topits is a Boehner supporter, having donated $8,100 in campaign contributions between 2007 and 2011, according to Federal Election Commission Records. Topits also gave Kentucky U.S. Sen. Rand Paul $1,000 in 2010.
Topits lists his position as owner of Midwest Agency, a Cincinnati-based firm that provides financing and other services to auto dealers.
Massie, who resigned this summer as Lewis County judge-executive to campaign for Congress, ended June with more than $96,000 in the bank. He spent nearly a half-million dollars in a seven-candidate Republican primary for the open 4th District race to replace U.S. Rep. Geoff Davis of Hebron, who resigned for family reasons.
Massie faces Democrat Bill Adkins, a lawyer from Williamstown. Adkins raised more than $35,000 through June and had nearly $12,000 in the bank.
The next campaign finance reporting period ended Sept. 30.
