Some of President's biggest supporters on Capitol Hill condemn Trump Jr.'s meeting

As the plot thickens around Donald Trump, Jr. and the Russia investigation, the response on Capitol Hill has been swift.

One of the president’s biggest supporters in Congress is condemning a meeting arranged with Trump, Jr. that was supposed to help his father’s presidential campaign with damaging information coming from Russia.

And one prominent Democrat is going much further, calling it treason.
Spectrum News Washington bureau reporter Alberto Pimienta has the story.

Vice President Mike Pence seemed to try and distance himself from this story in a statement form his press secretary Kasie Hunt.

“The vice president is working every day to advance the president’s agenda,” the statement from Hunt said. “He was not aware of the meeting. He is also not focused on stories about the campaign — especially those pertaining to the time before he joined the campaign.”

Trump, Jr. tweeting out this email chain comes after months of speculation that Russia and the Trump campaign worked together. The emails say that he agreed to sit with a Russian government attorney in June 2016 after he was told Moscow wanted to help the Republican candidate undermine Hillary Clinton. Spectrum News’ Josh Robin has the timeline of events.
