Situation with North Korea filled with "bad answers," Yarmuth says

With escalating tensions between the United States and North Korea, U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth says that none of the options are good adding he has little faith in President Trump to fix an issue that has baffled previous Democratic and Republican presidents.

North Korea tested a long-range missile on July 4 capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and reaching the Pacific Northwest. After the launch President Trump promised that the United States would deal with the country “very strongly,” in a statement released on his personal Twitter account.

In an interview with Pure Politics last week, Yarmuth, D-Louisville, said that it’s hard to determine when to take Trump seriously.

“I don’t know what to think of anything President Trump says, because it’s generally not based on any knowledge or understanding or historical perspective and his foreign policy seems to be to criticize President Obama,” Yarmuth said.

The situation with North Korea is filled with “bad answers,” Yarmuth said listing several options to deal with the nation.

The United States “has to do our best” at diplomacy and seek the help of China in helping to ease tensions and end weapons testing, Yarmuth said adding that it would likely be futile to launch an attack against the North Koreans.

“We don’t know where to strike,” he said, adding that there are thousands of Americans in South Korea.

Yarmuth also discussed Trump and the Russians and how Congress is once again seeking civil discourse — to watch that part of the interview click the video below.
