A group backed by a Louisville real estate developer is the latest entrant into the media fray surrounding a proposed state takeover of Jefferson County Public Schools.

Kentuckians for Progress, launched an ad buy on Thursday, June 7 claiming children in the Jefferson County Public Schools are being abused, according to documents obtained by Pure Politics.

The group behind the attack is not well known, nor is their structure. According to documents filed with the Federal Communications Commission Kentuckians for Progress operates out of an address on Dutchman’s Lane which is also the address of Nicklies Development, a real estate development company. David W. Nicklies, the President and CEO of Nicklies Development, is listed on the FCC documents for the radio ad buy as the treasurer of Kentuckians for Progress.

Kentuckians for Progress, is also not registered with the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance, or KREF, according to a document search and phone call with the registry’s legal department.

Nicklies did not immediately respond to a phone call and email about his involvement with the group. He is a political donor of both Democrats and Republicans, including Gov. Matt Bevin, R-Kentucky, primary run for the Governor’s Mansion in 2015.

Kentuckians for Progress is spending $4,920 to run their minute long advertisement titled: “enough is enough,” through mid-July on WGZB-FM radio, the home for B96.5, the hip hop station in Louisville.

The ad details allegations of abuse within the Head Start Program reported by Insider Louisville

After new appointments were added recently to the State Board of Education they recommended that Jefferson County Public Schools become a state-managed district.
