Seum: No succession plan in place if David Williams decides to leave Senate

While Sen. David Williams contemplates his future in Frankfort senators close to Williams say they’ve talked to him and that the move to a judgeship for Williams is a “possibility.” But until that point a key Republican says the caucus is moving forward, and that there is no succession plan in place if Williams decides to leave the Senate.

“David and I have talked and it certainly is a possibility,” said Sen. Dan Seum, R-Louisville, the Senate Majority Caucus Chair. “It is still in the making. We don’t know for sure, and until such time as he takes that position he is the President of the Senate.”

But Seum said the Republican caucus will wait until Williams makes a decision. And if Williams decides to leave, then they’ll go through the process of selecting the next Senate president.

While Sen. Robert Stivers, R-Manchester, is a likely candidate because he serves as Senate Republican floor leader, other names have been mentioned as possible leaders, including state Sen. David Givens, R-Greensburg.

Political wrangling like this is one reason while our judicial system is such a mess. It’s bad enough when judges are lawyers in black robes, but when they’re ex-politician appointees, there will surely be no justice in Kentucky. Shame on Williams AND Beshear for this.
