FRANKFORT – Senate Majority Floor Leader Damon Thayer, R-Georgetown, will deliver the Kentucky GOP response to former Gov. Steve Beshear’s response to President Donald Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday night.
Thayer will deliver the response on the Republican Party of Kentucky facebook page.
Thayer is preparing to rebut what he believes will be Beshear’s defense of the Affordable Care Act, which had a dramatic reduction on the state’s uninsured rate.
“He’s going to try to prop up Obamacare and talk about how great it was for Kentucky and I’m going to talk about how it wasn’t, and how interesting it is that the best the Democratic Party could do was a former governor, that they don’t have anybody amongst their ranks of elected officials who they want to put up there to respond to President Trump,” Thayer said.
Thayer believes that Trump has had a successful beginning to his presidency and is doing what those who elected him want him to do.
“I’m thrilled with his policies, I love the cabinet appointments, I love the role of Vice President Pence, and I think the president is doing exactly what he said that he would do and obviously the Hollywood liberal and the mainstream media are really struggling with that,” Thayer said. “I guess they’re not accustomed to someone doing exactly what they said that they would do.”
Trump’s address to Congress is scheduled for Tuesday night at 9:00pm. Beshear will speak directly after the address.
