LOUISVILLE— Louisville Metro Police Department says they are investigating after the Democratic Socialist Party of Louisville says they were attacked while holding their monthly meeting.

It happened at the Silver Dollar in the Clifton neighborhood in Louisville Thursday evening.

The owner of the Silver Dollar says a group of Democratic Socialists were eating and talking on the patio, when a group of White nationalist started harassing them. In the video, the group of men started calling the Democratic Socialists ‘Commies,’ telling them to stay out of the area.

The general manager of the restaurant asked the group to leave, but before they left, restaurant management says the group pepper sprayed the Democratic Socialists and the general manager of the restaurant.

Louisville Metro Police were called, but did not make any arrests. Police say they got conflicting stories about who pepper sprayed whom. In body camera video, the Democratic Socialists offered to let police search them for pepper spray. The police declined that offer.

Body camera video didn’t get the group of men on the other side making the same offer.

One of the people hit with pepper spray told police the group of men had threatened a member of the Democratic Socialists and had made a similar threat at another Louisville restaurant.
