U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, was re-elected to his post as majority leader of the U.S. Senate on Wednesday.

The Senate Republican Conference elected its leadership team for the 115th Congress behind closed doors, appointing McConnell to another two-year leadership role.

“It’s an honor to once again have been chosen by my colleagues to continue serving as their leader,” said Sen. McConnell. “I know I speak for each of my Republican colleagues in expressing my gratitude to the American people for entrusting us with this majority. We are eager to work with House Republicans and President-elect Trump to bring the national and economic security our nation is asking for.”

Joining McConnell on the leadership team is John Cornyn (R-Texas) as Senate Republican whip, John Thune (R-S.D.) as Senate Republican Conference chairman, John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) as Senate Republican Policy Committee chairman, Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) as Senate Republican Conference vice chairman, and Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) as National Republican Senatorial Committee chairman, according to a press release.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, who will soon join President-elect Donald Trump as his White House chief of staff, congratulated McConnell and the other Senate leaders Wednesday.

“I send my congratulations to Senator Mitch McConnell on his unanimous re-election as Senate Majority Leader,” Priebus said. “Along with Majority Whip John Cornyn, Conference Chair John Thune, Conference Vice Chair Roy Blunt, and Chairman of the Senate Republican Policy Committee John Barrasso, our Republican Senate leadership team is ready to continue their outstanding work of delivering new solutions for the American people.

“This is an exciting time to be a Republican, and I look forward to seeing our Republican majorities in both chambers work with President-elect Donald Trump to bring the change Americans voted for last week.”
