Massie lands on transportation, government oversight and science and technology committees

New Republican U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie of Vanceburg will have a place on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee — a panel that could play a key role in determining the fate of a new bridge between Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati.

That panel also oversees waterway travel, railroads and aviation — all key issues for the Northern Kentucky region, which includes 13 counties along the Ohio River as well as the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky Airport.

Massie, a graduate of MIT, also announced Tuesday he will also serve on the Science, Space and Technology Committee.

The third panel of which Massie will be a member is the Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

That will put him “in a position to hold the federal government accountable to taxpayers,” according to a statement from Massie’s office.

Massie has an advantage over most newly-elected members of the U.S. House who will join Congress in January because Massie already has been sworn. He is filling the unexpired term of former Republican U.S. Rep. Geoff Davis, who resigned in July to handle a family illness.
