The Kentucky Commission on Human Rights is sharing a list of different events taking place around the Commonwealth and Cincinnati, Ohio on Monday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Ashland
Monday, January 16 events

  • 10 a.m. The Annual Ashland-Boyd County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. March, Service and Lunch at the St. James AME Church. Located at 333 MLK Jr. Blvd, Ashland, Ky, 41101
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day Lunch at First Presbyterian Church located at 1600 Winchester Av Ashland, Ky 41101.

Bowling Green
Saturday, January 14 events

  • 4 p.m. Third Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. Located at Warren Central High School at 559 Morgantown Road, Bowling Green, Ky 42101.

Sunday, January 15 events

  • 4 p.m. Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Night Celebration Presentation on Emmett Till. Featuring guest speaker Dorothy Jarrett, who is a family relative of Emmett Till and a Middle School Principal from Norcross Georgia. Located at Parker Bennett Curry Elementary School 165 Webb Drive, Bowling Green, Ky 42101.

Monday, January 16 events

  • 7:30 a.m. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Memorial Breakfast at Parker Bennett Curry Elementary School. Featuring guest speaker John C. Lee Jr., pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Bowling Green. Located at 165 Webb Drive, Bowling Green, Ky 42101.
  • 10 a.m. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial March beginning at Warren County Justice Center, and ending at State Street Baptist Church. Starting address 1001 Center Street, Bowling Green, Ky 42101.
  • 11 a.m. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Celebration at State Street Baptist Church. Featuring guest speaker Dr. Gerald Smith of the University of Kentucky. Located at 340 State Street , Bowling Green, Ky 42101.

Wednesday, January 18 events

  • 10 a.m. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Chapel Service. Located at Ransdell Chapel 1 University Drive, Campbellsville, Ky 42718.

  • 11:30 a.m. Annual Northern Kentucky Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. March. Starting at the corner of MLK Jr. Blvd and Pike Street, Covington, Ky 41001.
  • 2 p.m. Annual Northern Kentucky Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance Martin Luther King Jr. Program. Located at the Life Learning Center 20 West 18th Street, Covington, Ky 41011.

Franklin

Lexington
Saturday, January 14 events

  • 11:30 a.m. 12th Annual Coretta Scott King Spirit of Ivy Awards Luncheon. Located at 1801 Newtown Pike, Embassy Suites Lexington.

Monday, January 16 events

  • 6:30 a.m. 23rd Annual Unity Breakfast. Located at the Lexington Convention Center.
  • 10 a.m. Martin Luther King Holiday Freedom March. The march will begin at Lexington Center Heritage Hall.

Louisville
Saturday, January 14 events

  • 9:30 a.m. Louisville Section of National Council of Negro Women, Inc. Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Breakfast Celebration.

Monday, January 16 events

  • 10 a.m. Martin Luther King Day film screening of “I Have a Dream.” It will be held at the Muhammad Ali Center, the first screen at 10a.m., and will take place hourly thereafter.
  • 10:30 a.m. The PRIDE Martin Luther King Jr. Motorcade. The motorcade will assemble at McDonalds at 28th and Broadway.

*Madisonville *
Saturday, January 14 events

  • 7 p.m. Hopkins County 33rd Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. Located at Byrnes Auditorium 750 Laffoon Street, Madisonville, Ky.

Newport
Monday, January 16 events

  • 11:30 a.m. Annual Northern Kentucky NAACP MLK Jr. Luncheon. Located at the Syndicate Event Center 18 Est Fifth St, Newport, Ky 41071.

Richmond
Monday, January 16 events

  • 9 a.m. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Breakfast. Located at the First Christian Church 412 West Main Street, Richmond, Ky 40475.

Lexington and Louisville will also have service opportunities on Monday, January 16.

Lexington will commemorate MLK Jr. Day with its fourth annual family-friendly day of volunteer activities supporting the undeserved from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can find more information about how to participate at their website
