Democratic candidate for commissioner of agriculture Bob Farmer is a comedian who uses a humorous approach in his bio ad he began airing earlier this week.
But, in this case, he borrowed the joke.
Farmer’s campaign said the ad is “inspired” by a 1990 ad by then-Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Paul Wellstone of Minnesota.
In fact, Farmer seems to have made only a few changes to the script. Wellstone’s ad was produced by North Woods Advertising. Watch the ads:
Wellstone went on to win that 1990 Senate race despite being out-raised by incumbent Republican Sen. Rudy Boschwitz. Wellstone served two terms. He was killed in a plane crash in 2002 while seeking a third term.
