Lexington Mayor's race: Jim Gray defeats Jim Newberry
11/02/2010 05:07 PM
7:00 p.m.: Lexington Mayor Jim Newberry has called Vice Mayor Jim Gray to concede and is giving his concession speech.
With 86% of precincts reporting, Gray was leading 53% to Newberry’s 47%.
4:35 p.m. The race between the two Jims has gotten harsh in tone, in no small part to the tenor of the ads.
Vice Mayor Jim Gray, who runs a construction company, has poured $380,000 of his own money into the race through Oct. 18. That’s almost the total amount Mayor Jim Newberry had spent, $414,106, up to that point.
Both are registered Democrats. But Newberry spent part of his Saturday at a Republican rally to drum up votes.
