Laws regulating beer distribution the least important issue for Kentucky voters, poll says

A new poll released this week by the Bluegrass Institute for Public Policy Solutions ranked the issues Kentuckians care most and least about, and the survey found the economy is still the top issue and legislation regulating beer distribution is the least important issue for lawmakers to tackle.
Of the possible 11 issues, which included the minimum wage, taxes and the environment, 54 percent of voters polled ranked “jobs and the economy” as the most important issue for the legislature and governor to address.
Bluegrass Institute President Jim Waters said both Democrats and Republicans highlighted the same top issues: jobs and the economy, education and healthcare.
“There’s a real sense that voters are — their patience may be wearing thin with politicians who may be wanting to avoid those issues … who want to maybe focus on less important issues,” he said.
The statewide survey of 600 Kentucky voters was conducted Jan. 5-7. The poll has a 4 percent margin of error. Fifty-three percent of respondents said they were registered Democrats, 39 percent were Republicans and 6 percent of poll respondents claimed another or no party.
Fifty-four percent of voters polled said that the least important issue for the legislature to address was laws regulating beer distribution. The survey found not a single respondent identified this as a top issue.
House Speaker Greg Stumbo, D-Prestonsburg, filed House Bill 168 , which has garnered much publicity this session.
The bill would prevent beer companies, like Anhesuer-Bush, from owning their own independent distributorships.
“This bill is a solution for a problem that doesn’t exist,” Waters said.
“As far as the poll goes, I think voters really get it, that this is not an issue they want their voters spending their time and taxpayer dollars and resources on.”
