GOP needs to do better to reach young voters and entrepreneurs -- not big business, Barr says

Count new Congressman Andy Barr among the Republicans who say his party needs to change its message in order to remain relevant in 2014 and beyond.
Barr joined the ranks of Republicans who distanced themselves from Presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s comments in the week after the election in which he told donors he lost because President Barack Obama promised “gifts” to minority groups and young voters.
Barr, who gave the Kentucky GOP its biggest win on election night by unseating Democratic U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler in the 6th District, said Republicans need to “expand our appeal to people.”
“And I think we have our work cut out for us,” he said. “We need to a better job in reaching out.”
In the interview with Barr, which was recorded Nov. 19, he said he agreed with Republican U.S. Rep. Raul Labrador of Idaho, who said on the Nov. 18 edition of NBC’s “Meet the Press” that big business loves big government.
“As a Republican Party, we need to be about the entrepreneur. We need to be about economic growth. That benefits everybody,” Barr said.
