Former First Lady Barbara Bush dies at 92

Former First Lady and Barbara Bush, the wife of President George H.W. Bush, and mother of George W. Bush, has died Tuesday evening at the age of 92 years old.

Jim McGrath, the Bush family spokesperson, broke the news on Twitter Tuesday evening in a statement posted on social media.

Bush declined further medical treatment this week, instead focusing on “comfort and care.” Bush suffered from pneumonia in 2013, according to news reports.

Barbara is survived by her husband, former President George Bush, the two were married for 73 years. The couple had five children, including former President George W. Bush, and their spouses; 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

The funeral will be Saturday, April 21 in Houston. The service will be by invitation only, and strict security measures will be in place.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, paid tribute to the former first lady on the Senate floor Wednesday.
