Democratic PAC reserves $564,000 in ad time to take on Barr

The House Majority PAC, an organization aimed at electing Democrats to Congress, has made a half a million dollar TV ad reservation in Kentucky’s 6th Congressional District.

U.S. Rep. Andy Barr, R-Lexington, is being targeted by Democrats in the district which he has represented since 2013, defeating former U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler, D-Lexington, in 2012.

The $564,000 in television advertising time the group has reserved is the earliest mark the PAC has reserved for the final weeks of an election. Democrats are hoping to find enough vulnerable Republicans to once again control the U.S. House of Representatives.

“The Republicans are panicking about losing their majority in the House, because they know that across the country Democrats have top-notch candidates running, and there’s a surge in grassroots participation,” said House Majority PAC Executive Director Charlie Kelly. “2018 will bring a barrage of frantic negative attack ads from GOP outside groups, but HMP is ensuring we’re prepared early-on to fight back. Momentum is on our side, and with smart, strategic investments, we will help Democrats win across the country.”

Lexington Mayor Jim Gray, former Marine fighter pilot Amy McGrath, state Sen. Reggie Thomas , Theodore Green, Daniel Kemph, and Geoff Young are all vying for the Democratic nomination on May 22.

Little Andy Barr is running scared. Since 2013 I do not recall receiving a single letter or mailer from Andy…that is until the last 2 months (I’ve received 3 in that time period). I repeat, Andy Barr has not mailed a single update or letter or mailer to my house in 5 years…until now. He knows his days are numbered and he is using his political office to mail thinly veiled campaign materials to residents of the 6th district. Clock is ticking, Andy. Clock is ticking.

In our experience, Mr. Barr has run an effective constituent services operation, even as he aligns himself with the ideologues of global finance, perpetual war, and worst of all, the racist nationalist President. The 6th District has a shrinking number of people who benefit from Mr. Barr’s base, as middle class incomes become stagnant, the rich get wealthier, 6th district families lose more family members to military actions with no goals and no purpose, and Mr. Barr’s President daily demonstrates his gross incompetence. Now, Mr. Barr’s President endangers one of Kentucky’s most iconic industries with his reactionary trade policies, and Mr. Barr’s political future begins to look imperiled.

With all that said, there is only one Democratic candidate with a realistic shot of unseating the incumbent. The Lexington Mayor can’t win. Neither can the State Senator, and it pains us greatly to say so, but the reasons neither can win in the 6th district should be obvious. It’s easy to assume that Lexington-Fayette culture dominates the district, but that just isn’t the case.

The only Democrat who can unseat Mr. Barr is the former fighter pilot/mother who brings as much conviction and competence to a Congressional race in Kentucky as we have seen in quite sometime. Ms. McGrath is who Mr. Barr fears most, given his President’s affair with the porn star and his ongoing vileness. In a McGrath – Barr race, we think the challenger pulls it out by mobilizing the women of the district in a great show of force to the sexist, repulsive President, who’s tenure is more tenuous by the day given his propensity for creating evidence of his own obstruction of justice.

By the time this is over we’ll all think that Nancy Pelosi is on the ballot.

I’m looking forward to Andy inviting Donald Trump to campaign with him in Lexington.

When they appear together, I hope Andy will stand up straight and take his lips off Trump’s backside just long enough to collect a bunch of campaign cash from the adoring crowd of bankers.

After he’s swapped spit with the bankers, Andy can resume his natural position.
