HARRODSBURG — Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor Sannie Overly told supporters at a “meet and greet” on Thursday in Harrodsburg that two of the top priorities of a Jack Conway-Sannie Overly administration will be to bring jobs to the state through educating the workforce and improve modern digital infrastructure throughout the commonwealth.

Overly, who met with approximately 25 supporters at a downtown diner in Harrodsburg, said that Conway will be marketing the state to businesses around the globe and will put an emphasis on supplying an educated workforce.

“You’ll see in a Conway-Overly administration, equal emphasis put on workforce development at the cabinet level,” Overly said. “We’ll be looking at how we train Kentucky workers, to make sure they are ready for the jobs that we are recruiting into Kentucky.”

Overly feels that it’s imperative that Kentucky increase its broadband capability.

Recent surveys list Kentucky at 47th in the country in broadband connectivity and 50th in broadband speed.

“We cannot afford to allow Kentucky to be left behind,” Overly said. “If we are going to recruit and retain businesses, particularly in the rural parts of Kentucky, we must have an infrastructure for those businesses to participate in e-commerce.”

Historically, the gubernatorial election draws few registered voters to the polls.

Overly is hopeful that voters understand that the state is at a crossroads with two distinctively different candidates for governor and will turnout to the polls in November.

“I’m hopeful that with a very positive conversation about what it is that we can bring, and what we add, and what we stand for, that we will be able to energize voters and get them to the polls in the fall,” Overly said.
