DCCC aims to flood Barr's office with phone calls demanding sequester solutions

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has launched new paid phone calls giving the residents of Kentucky’s 6th Congressional district the ability to call Congressman Andy Barr, R-Lexington, directly to demand action on the sequester.
The automated calls that began Wednesday describes their congressman’s role in the automatic spending cuts set to take place Friday if Congress does not act. The constituent is then given the option to be connected to Barr’s office directly to demand action on the sequester.
The phone message to 6th district residents reads as follows:
Hello. This is Jennifer calling from the DCCC. On March 1st, America’s middle class is going to pay a terrible price because Congressman Andy Barr’s Tea Party House Republicans backed a sequester plan that will eliminate more than 2 million jobs, slow our economy and may drive us back into a recession.
It can be stopped. Congress can pass a balanced plan that reduces the deficit with smart spending cuts, ends tax breaks for millionaires and closes wasteful tax loopholes for Big Oil companies that are already making record profits.
But Congressman Barr refuses. He won’t compromise on a solution for the middle class because he is protecting tax breaks for the well-off and well-connected. These cuts will be devastating and could set us back for a generation.
Unfortunately, Congressman Barr is siding with the worst kind of Tea Party dysfunction and partisanship in Washington, instead of solving problems and protecting the middle class.
Press 1 right now if you’d like me to connect you directly with Congressman Barr to demand that he gets behind a plan to end the sequester and put the middle class ahead of millionaires and corporate special interests.

In a quote to Pure Politics, Barr’s Communication Director David Host said the following about the calls:
“Congressman Barr knows these robo calls come with the territory, and always appreciates hearing from his constituents. He remains focused on finding a bipartisan solution which will replace the sequester with an equal or greater amount of spending reductions that reflect an intelligent selection of priorities.”
Barr has been calling for targeted cuts rather than across the board cuts that would effect the Blue Grass Army Depot. According to a Military Times report Army sequestration cuts could reduce funds for the Blue Grass Army Depot by $48 million.
But Pure Politics spoke with David Bergstein of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee who said Barr is not doing enough to stop the sequester.
“We’re a day away from the disastrous consequences of sequester, yet Congressman Andy Barr is unwilling to compromise and uninterested in solutions,” said Bergstein. “Grassroots Democrats, Independents and moderate Republicans are standing up and telling Congressman Barr that it’s time to cut spending the responsible way – by ending tax loopholes for companies that ship jobs overseas and billionaires – instead of through this indiscriminate sequester that jeopardizes vital programs that middle class families rely on.”
