David Williams places all 4 freshman GOP senators on budget committee

FRANKFORT — As a reward for gaining three Democratic-held seats and holding onto a Republican seat in last month’s election, the four new GOP senators will serve on the Senate’s budget committee.
Senate President David Williams confirmed on Friday that he would assign those senators — Jared Carpenter of Richmond, Joe Bowen of Owensboro, Mike Wilson of Bowling Green and Paul Hornback of Shelbyville — to the appropriations and revenue committee.
In any legislative body, a spot on an appropriations committee is considered a top assignment because of its responsibility for crafting the state’s budgets and deciding how to dole out government money for programs and projects.
Several of the senators mentioned during their campaign that Williams had pledged to give them such a plum assignment promises or at least said they hoped to serve on such a prominent committee.
On Tuesday, Bowen said in an interview with cn|2 Politics that the assignments were a recognition of what the voters wanted in Frankfort.
Bowen and the other three new Republican Senators have joined 13 other new lawmakers in the freshman lawmaker orientation in Frankfort this week. Pure Politics will feature the freshmen later this week.
