Senate President David Williams has been chosen by Governor Steve Beshear to fill the open 40th Circuit Judgeship covering Cumberland, Clinton and Monroe counties effective November 2nd.
The decision was announced through a press release Friday afternoon from the Governor’s office stating:
“I am appointing Senator David Williams to this judgeship effective Nov. 2.
Senator Williams is an experienced lawyer and is familiar with the district, having represented the area in the legislature for more than 20 years.” said Beshear in the press release.
The announcement comes only one day after the nominating committee appointed by Beshear composed a list of three names, Williams being one of them .
Williams said in a statement Thursday that he would accept the appointment if the governor picked him.
“I am appreciative of the nomination and if the governor appoints me, I will accept the position,” Williams’ statement said.
U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell released a statement congratulating Williams on the appointment.
“David’s twenty-five years in the State Senate stand as one of the most accomplished tenures in the history of the Commonwealth. His legacy is carried out every day through the countless communities across Kentucky that have benefited from his leadership,” said McConnell in a press release. “The next chapter in David’s life will undoubtedly share the same commitment to public service that he’s demonstrated throughout his entire career.”
