David Williams joins forces with GOP House leaders to dub Stumbo as 'the Nancy Pelosi of Ky.'

Republican state Senate President David Williams and House GOP Leader Jeff Hoover haven’t always been the closest of allies.

But Williams gave Hoover more than a shout-out last week. He gave him a campaign strategy against House Speaker Greg Stumbo of Prestonsburg, whom Williams has arguably been more likely to work with in recent years than Hoover.

In the course of an interview with Pure Politics on the floor of the Republican National Convention last week, Williams said he’s concerned with the expansion of Medicaid and the creation of the Kentucky health exchange — both results of the Affordable Care Act. He said he thought the exerting broad authority to implement the health exchange over concerns from lawmakers would be “dangerous.” (4:15)

He said that’s why it’s important Republicans take control of the state House, which would require a net gain of 10 seats for the GOP this fall.

And Williams made a comparison with the controversial Pelosi, saying conservative congressional Democrats voted to install her as Speaker of the House in 2007, and conservative Democrats have done the same thing in the state House with Stumbo. (6:00). And hear Hoover’s comments about that at 7:30 in the video.
