Bevin asks for input on beard

FRANKFORT- Gov. Matt Bevin has been rocking a beard the past couple months—and now he’s asking Kentuckians to cast their vote on whether it should stay or go.

The vote is being used as a fundraiser to benefit First Lady Glenna Bevin’s foundation, #WeAreKY! Inc, which supports foster care and adoption initiatives. Every dollar donated equals one vote.

Voters have five options to chose from:

  • The Samson- A continued full beard, inspired by the Old Testament judge
  • The Anchorman-A 1970s-style mustache à la fictional newsman Ron Burgundy
  • The Fu Manchu- A horseshoe-shaped goatee, on frequent display during the 1980s
  • The Colonel- A Van Dyke beard, in homage to iconic poultry purveyor Col. Harland Sanders
  • The Clean Shave-The runaway favorite of most post 19th-century Commonwealth executives

“For three months I have heard many comments about my beard. Most women hate it, 100 percent of bearded men love it, and most folks have opinions somewhere in between,” said Gov. Bevin. “Glenna and I have a passion for Kentucky’s 9,000 foster youth and ask you to please consider making a generous tax-deductible contribution to the #WeAreKY! Foundation.”

Online voting ends Wednesday Oct. 10 at 11 am.
