Coal will fuel Barr's remarks against Chandler and Obama in Republican National Convention speech

Andy Barr said he will focus on coal and domestic energy production when he takes the national stage at the Republican National Convention on Monday.

“We’re going to tell a story about a Kentuckian impacted in a negative way from these policies Barack Obama and Ben Chandler have supported that have really devastated our coal industry,” said Barr, the Lexington lawyer who is running in a rematch from 2010 against U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler, D-Versailles, for the 6th congressional district.

Barr told Pure Politics his speech is slated for the first session on the first day of the convention – which could mean an afternoon speaking slot.

Barr said being asked to speak at the convention is a “tremendous honor.” He said he feels like he is a Kentuckian representing all Kentuckians on the national stage.

While Barr will be attending the GOP convention in Tampa, Chandler already said he will skip the Democratic National Convention the following week in Charlotte.
