Lexington lawyer Andy Barr is leading U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler, D-Versailles, for the first time in his campaign according to a new poll released Friday by Wenzel Strategies – which was paid for by the Citizens United Political Victory Fund, the affiliated PAC of Citizens United.
Barr, the Republican Congressional Challenger, barely leads Chandler with a, “45% to 41% advantage, with 6% favoring independent candidate Randolph Vance and another 8% yet undecided,” according to the polling memo.
The poll included 776 respondents and was conducted Oct. 23-24; it carries a margin of error of +/- 3.49 percentage points.
Wenzel Strategies is an opinion research company based in Columbus, Ohio. It conducted a telephone survey of likely voters in the 6th Dist. regarding the November election.
The poll also indicated Chandler is in trouble with his Democratic constituents.
“Chandler is having significant trouble winning strong support among his own party. Just 64% of Democrats support him in the race, while 22% of Democrats support the Republican candidate. Another 10% of Democrats are yet unsure,” the polling memo said.
Barr is doing considerably better among his own party, according to the polling results holding 78 percent of the Republican vote, with 11 percent of Republicans reporting they will support Chandler.
