FRANKFORT – First Lady Glenna Bevin, along with representatives from the Department of Community Based Services (DCBS) and Anthem BlueCross and BlueShield Medicaid, announced a donation from Anthem to Kentucky’s foster youth.

The company presented a gift of $15,000 which will go to the First Lady’s foundation, #WeAreKY!, Inc., and to DCBS, as well as a large number of duffel bags.

Elizabeth Stearman, Director of Behavioral Health for Anthem Medicaid, praised the Governor and First Lady Glenna Bevin’s commitment to foster care as well as legislation which has helped raise additional funds for foster care.

“Their work around fictive kin legislation has helped identify and support caring adults that want to bring these children into their homes and give them that forever family that they’re looking for,“Stearman said. “The drivers license bill legislation helps our foster care children that are getting ready to age out of the care of their foster family and helps them to become more moblie, more independent, more self assured and really prepare them to move into adulthood.”

First Lady Glenna Bevin saluted Anthem for their support of aiding those in foster care.

“They are currently serving over 800 children and their families,” Bevin said. “This past year, they donated sleeping bags to the Boys and Girls Haven after they experienced weather related issues, they donated 700 coats and delivered them to 11 DCBS agencies across the state.”

Gov. Matt Bevin was scheduled to speak at the press conference, but did not attend.
