Alleged Rand Paul attacker pleads not guilty

The man who allegedly assaulted U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, outside his Bowling Green has pleaded not guilty.

Rene Boucher pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor assault in the fourth degree during an arraignment in Warren District Court Thursday morning.

Boucher allegedly tackled the Kentucky junior Senator to the ground last Friday, breaking six ribs and bruising Paul’s lungs. There was no change in the charges on Thursday, and no change in Boucher’s bond. Boucher is also an anesthesiologist and pain specialist.

Some have speculated the incident took place as part of a long-standing feud over yard maintenance. A pre-trial conference is set for November 30th.
