All you need to remember from 2012 Kentucky politics in five and a half minutes

Kentucky politics in 2012 produced a lot of talk. As for action? Well, maybe 2013 will be better.
Leaders in Frankfort faced a slew of problems but put off any solutions until at least 2013 for many of them: revamping an underfunded pension system, fixing glitches with Medicaid managed care, reforming the state’s antiquated tax code and redrawing the legislative district maps, to name a few.
Lawmakers did approve two new laws aimed at curbing production of methamphetamine and the abuse of prescription pills. But the latter had to be passed in special session after a meltdown over approval of a road spending bill derailed the end of the regular General Assembly session.
It was a year that saw two longtime fixtures in Kentucky politics take steps out of the spotlight, one as a result of the election, the other through an appointment to a judgeship.
Kentucky hosted the only vice presidential debate.
And Kentuckians elected two new congressmen, including one who replaced U.S. Rep. Geoff Davis, who resigned in July.
