FRANKFORT — Kentucky political forces will caravan west on Saturday for that annual pilgrimage dating back to the 1880’s — Fancy Farm in rural Graves County for the 138th annual Fancy Farm Picnic.

This year it will be Republican Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles doling out the punch lines from the stage as the emcee of the event which benefits the St. Jerome Catholic Church.

Quarles, who is in his first term in office first spoke on the stage at Fancy Farm in 2015, when he delivered his stump speech.

“To me this was somewhat of a dream come true,” he said. “When I was a young kid, I always took time to watch on KET the Fancy Farm picnic and watched politicians of previous generations slug it out on stage in perhaps one of the most theatrical American political theaters that still exist today.”

Quarles plans on delivering homage to Kentucky agriculture in his speech, but assures there will be punch lines.

“I always like to remind my friends, you can never win at Fancy Farm, but you can always lose,” he said.
