Adam Edelen making the rounds at DNC sparks 'future governor' buzz

No Kentuckian made it onto the big stage at the Democratic National Convention, but that didn’t stop state Auditor Adam Edelen from finding the spotlight elsewhere last week in Charlotte.

Edelen started the week as a featured guest among more than a dozen “rising stars of the Democratic Party” on the eve of the convention, spoke to the Kentucky Democrats at their breakfast on Day Two and wrapped up the week by addressing the South Carolina Democratic delegation on Thursday.

It was a hectic week for the state auditor who made no efforts to tamp down lofty talk by those who introduced him, like Los Angeles City Councilman Eric Garcetti and former South Carolina gubernatorial candidate Vincent Sheheen, who referred to him as a future governor of Kentucky.

Here’s a look at what Edelen was up to last week:

Edelen acknowledged that having a national network could be helpful in future runs for office.

He’s among a host of Democrats and Republicans being mentioned as potential candidates for governor in 2015. Among them: Edelen’s predecessor as auditor, Crit Luallen, Central Bank Chairman Luther Deaton and Attorney General Jack Conway.

Conway has expressed interest in running for governor, but Edelen sidestepped a question about whether his growing national connections should worry Conway.

Conway spent part of the week attending private functions for the Democratic Attorneys General Association for which he is now the chairman.
